Curriculum

At Millbrook, using the National Curriculum. we are committed to teaching a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that challenges all of our pupils and enriches their lives.

Our reading scheme is the Oxford Reading Tree from Oxford University Press, supplemented with the “Floppy’s Phonics” scheme. We use the ” Letters and Sounds” programme to teach phonics.

Recent updates from Dolphin class

  • KS1 – Library visit

    KS1 enjoyed their recent trip to West Swindon library. The librarian told the children all about the huge variety of books on offer and they then had the chance to share a book with their friends – which they thoroughly enjoyed. The trip was then rounded off perfectly with a lovely story read to them by the librarian. They were also able to take some books back to school to enjoy.

  • Times Tables RockStars – Years 2 – 6

    When it comes to times tables, speed AND accuracy are important – the more facts you remember, the easier it is to do harder calculations. Times Table Rock Stars is a fun and challenging programme designed to help pupils master the times tables. Children in Years 2 – 6 have their own login for Times Table Rock Stars.   • Advent Book Calendar in KS1

    Key Stage One are enjoying their annual book advent calendar. What book will be opened today? So far we’ve enjoyed reading Christmas fiction, poems and stories.

  • KS1 – Hanukkah

    We have been learning about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. The year 2 children taught the Year 1 children how to play Spin the Dreidel. They then used this experience to write a set of commands to teach others how to play.

  • Celebrations in KS1

    Key Stage 1 have been learning about Celebrations. For the first two weeks of term, we learned all about the Hindu festival of Diwali and how it is celebrated. To finish off our learning we had our own Diwali celebration outside. We made rangoli patterns out of leaves and chalk. We acted out the story of Rama and Sita.
