Dolphin Class


At Millbrook we are committed to teaching a broad and balanced curriculum that challenges all of our pupils and enriches their life experience. As of September 2014 in line with Government initiative Millbrook is delivering the New Curriculum.
Our reading scheme is the Oxford Reading Tree from Oxford University Press, supplemented with the “Floppy’s Phonics” scheme. We use the ” Letters and Sounds” programme to teach phonics.

  • Millbrook celebrates the Royal Wedding

    We had an amazing afternoon in the beautiful weather on Friday 18th May. The event started with a family picnic on the field, with the packed lunches served in Union Jack boxes.   • Year 2 – The Fire of London and Bread making!

    Year 2 launched their fire of London topic with a visit from Warburton’s. They learnt about the production of bread products, the importance of a balanced diet and then they went on to make their own bread. They were given special hats to wear and learnt about using baker’s hands to ensure everything stayed clean. They had to shape their bread into designs from their topic too – these ranged from houses to flames. Luckily our bakers were very careful…

  • KS1 – The Fire of London

    KS1 enjoyed making Tudor houses to start their topic on the Great Fire of London. They learned how the houses were packed closely together and what materials they were made of. At the end of term they re-enacted the Great Fire of  London . On Tuesday 6th February Mr Wilson set fire to the bakery and everyone watched as the Tudor model houses went up in smoke!   • Born in a Barn

    KS1 and Foundation stage worked incredibly hard to put on three fantastic performances of Out of the Ark’s production, ‘Born in a Barn’. A special well done to all the Year 2s for learning their parts and projecting their voices so well. All the children across the 4 year groups performed so well and the singing was beautiful. A big thank you to all the parents and carers who came to watch.

  • Christmas in KS1

    KS1 are preparing for their Christmas nativity, ‘Born in a Barn’. The Year 2 children have learned their lines brilliantly and everyone has been practising the songs! They are counting down the days until Christmas with this Christmas stories advent calendar. Each day during December there is a new book to open and read. We’ve read poems, Christmas stories and stories about winter. We can’t wait to find out what will be next!

  • Year 2 – Inspirational Inventors

    This term we have been learning about Inspirational Inventors. We hot-seated Alexander Graham Bell, made timelines to show how phones have changed since they were first invented and learned about different inventors. We also learned about toys from the past and present. We made our own catapult toys, played Victorian games and wrote an information page about Toys and Games from the Past using all the information that we’d learned.
