• At Millbrook, we follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme of work. All children are able to participate in the PSHE curriculum regardless of gender, race or ability.
  •  Jigsaw provides children with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes, values and skills they need in order to reach their potential as individuals and within the community. Pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of their school and communities. In doing so they learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning. They are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
  • There are six units of work taught and these are known as Jigsaw Puzzle pieces. The heading of these are:
    • Term 1 Being Me in the World
    • Term 2 Celebrating difference
    • Term 3 Dreams and goals
    • Term 4 Healthy Me
    • Term 5 Relationships
    • Term 6 Changing Me
  •  By the time they leave Year 6, children will have learnt to understand and respect our common humanity; diversity and differences so that they can go on to form the effective, fulfilling relationships that are an essential part of life and learning. Jigsaw PSHE will support the development of the skills, attitudes, values and behaviour, which enable pupils to:
    • Have a sense of purpose
    • Value self and others
    • Form relationships
    • Make and act on informed decisions
    • Communicate effectively
    • Work with others
    • Respond to challenge
    • Be an active partner in their own learning
    • Be active citizens within the local community
    • Explore issues related to living in a democratic society
    • Become healthy and fulfilled individuals
  • A discrete PSHE lesson is taught once a week from FS2 to Year 6

  • Weekly lessons are discrete, however we take opportunities to link our PSHE learning with topics wherever possible.
  • There is a termly PSHE assembly to launch each Jigsaw puzzle piece. This is always delivered by the PSHE Co-ordinator.
  • Our year 6 children take part in junior good citizen workshops, enabling them to apply their skills and knowledge learnt in school to real life situations.

  • Each child has a Jigsaw Journal that starts in Year 1 and follow their Jigsaw Journey through school.
  • Teachers use the schemes resources and photos as evidence.
  • At the end of each Jigsaw Puzzle piece teachers will assess progress using Target Tracker statements that are linked to the Jigsaw learning objectives.
  • Each year group has a Jigsaw Puzzle piece. In FS2 and Key stage 1 these will be represented as a plush toy. Key stage 2 children have a poster will their puzzle piece character on to refer to in lessons.
    • Children develop skills to:
    • Have a sense of purpose
    • Value self and others
    • Form relationships
    • Make and act on informed decisions
    • Communicate effectively
    • Work with others
    • Respond to challenge
    • Be an active partner in their own learning
    • Be active citizens within the local community
    • Explore issues related to living in a democratic society
    • Become healthy and fulfilled individuals
